It may seem early, but the spring market is right around the corner, so today, I wanted to give you some tips for buying a home in the Hampton Roads spring market.

You can never be too prepared; after all, buying a home is one of the most important financial decisions you'll ever make in your life. You want to do anything you can to be proactive and prepared so that when you actually go out shopping for a home, you have your ducks in a row.

The first step is to speak with a loan officer to get pre-qualified for a mortgage. If you like, your real estate agent can put you in contact with a preferred lender who will speak with you over the phone for about five to 10 minutes. At that time, they'll let you know if there's anything you need to do to be financially prepared to buy a house. If you're in good shape right now, they'll tell you which mortgage products are available and what your interest rate payments will be at certain price points.
Good properties go quickly, so it's important to be prepared.
This will give you a great basis to be prepared to go out and shop for homes.

The next step is to start looking at houses online in the areas that you're interested in. You'll start to get an idea of what you can get for your money as well as the condition that homes are in at certain price points. You can also call your Realtor and let them know what you're looking for so they can identify properties that fit the description.

Good properties go quickly, which is why this step is so important. Speaking with a lender ahead of time is important as well.

You want to be both educated and prepared when it comes time to select the right home for you and your family. If you have any questions or I can help you in any way, give me a call soon. I'd be happy to help you!
